"Then and Now"

Follow the journey of the Foundations second mural from conception to completion.

Work has begun on the Foundations second mural! Local artist and board member, Coralie Rycroft, took inspiration from two sources to bring to life the following mural. A painting from local artist Joy Kuechle entitled 'Harvest', depicting a farmer's combine harvester with that ever so locally known view of the mountains, became a major contributing factor. The other source of inspiration was an old black and white photo of a local farmer plowing his field with oxen. This old photo was found in the Glenbow archives.

With these two sources of inspiration, Coralie conceptualized this original digital painting.

Next came the process of transferring the picture onto the dibond board. This included drawing in the outlines of the landscape and animals and all the little details. Next came the painting. With the help of Joanne Loberg and after many hours of work, they managed to replicate the picture on the board.

The final product....

And now that this beautiful piece was done it was time to hand over the painting to be cut up into over 400 square tiles.

These tiles were then distributed to four local schools. Just like the mini mural these students will add their own designs to a tile and together create a beautiful piece of art.

These tiles are currently being returned to the Foundation and being put into place.

Watch as the mural comes back together:

Teacher Laurel Pritchard from the Beaverlodge Elementary School puts up the mosaic tiles from grades 5 and 6.

Keep coming back for more as the tiles are returned and watch the mural come together!
